These images show cross-sections of the mouse cerebral cortex, demonstrating the diversity of cell types and neural composition throughout these layers. From left to right the panels show: the distribution of a calcium-binding protein (parvalubmin) using immunohiostochemistry, all cell nuclei, an isolated pyramidal cell with processes spanning the extent of the cortical layers, a subtype of inhibitory neuron (isolated using a transgenic mouse line), and all neuronal cell bodies.
