Laser generated high friction surface texture

Author name:
Andrew Dunn
Affiliation:

Description:
SEM image taken after laser texturing and plasma nitriding of stainless steel substrate, for applications requiring high friction surfaces. The apparent random structure is due to the high overlap of adjacent laser pulses on the surface, with the spherical features created by the molten material resolidifying after each pulse.
Equipment used:
SEM
