Description:
Acanthamoeba are classified into various T types (T1 to T19) based on the 18s RNA sequences. More than 1600 T types have been deposited from around the world in the gene banks. For the first time a network analysis of the pooled data submitted to the gene banks has been carried out that indicates relative association among the various T types. T4 emerges as the major type while many intermediate types are also clearly visible indicating limitations of the current system in resolving well the various T types based on 18s RNA sequence analysis. This is the first time the whole T types have been visualized at the same place.
